The updated airline passenger rights entitle you to an automatic refund or travel credit if you choose not to accept the airline’s alternate travel options. This applies to cancelled flights, domestic flights delayed by 3+ hours, and international flights delayed by 6+ hours.
If you are bumped from an overbooked flight without your consent, you can claim compensation and be entitled to a written explanation for the denied boarding. Moreover, depending on the situation, you are eligible for other assistance like rebooking and accommodations.
You are entitled to a prompt refund or compensation if your flight is cancelled or significant changes are made to your flight by the airline. Regardless of the reason, the airline must refund their ticketed passengers, even with the non-refundable fares. But this is applicable when you decide not to accept the alternate option offered to you in place of your cancelled flight.
If your booked flight arrives after three or more hours than the scheduled time due to the airline’s fault, you have the right to receive compensation.
Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 of the EU lays some common rules and grounds that protect passengers’ rights in the event of flight cancellations, delays, and overbooking. It ensures that passengers get their fair compensation between €250 (or $275) and €600 (or $660) if their flights are delayed by 3+ hours.
